Consumers who purchased the now-discontinued season pass for Assassin’s Creed: Unity will be able to download their free game this week, Ubisoft has announced.

In the wake of the game’s trouble launch, Ubisoft pulled the season pass last month, but not before a large number of people - including those who had purchased the collector’s edition of the game - had redeemed their code. Following reports of the many technical issues plaguing the game, and as part of their ongoing efforts to make amends for the damage done to their reputation, Ubisoft announced that previously-announced DLC Dead Kings would now be free for anyone who purchases the game (a further piece of DLC, named China, is also due to be released some time next year). As compensation, the publisher promised to provide a free game from a limited selection of titles for those who had paid for the season pass.

In a post on the official Assassin’s Creed website, Ubisoft noted that you’ll need to redeem the game on the same platform as the one you redeemed your code, and that if you didn’t redeem your code before November 25th, there may be a delay in sorting out your eligibility. A number of titles are available to choose from: The Crew, Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, Rayman Legends and Just Dance 2015 are all available.

Full details on how to claim your free game haven’t yet been made available, but Ubisoft has promised that they’ll be published over the next few days.

Yours truly reviewed Unity for Continue Play and found it to be enjoyable, but suffering from a number of issues. Not all of these are technical - the presence of microtransactions is unwelcome, while a large amount of content is locked behind the need to use the companion app on iOS. I ended up scoring the game 6/10. “At the end of the day, Assassin’s Creed: Unity is a decent game. It’s just not a good game,” I said, “and it falls far short of the standards that players should expect from what is one of the biggest franchises in the industry.”
