Bethesda revealed today that Fallout Shelter has rapidly become the top downloaded game in 48 countries, and the top downloaded app of any kind in 25 countries since its release.
“We play games on our phones all the time, and have always wanted to make one,” said Todd Howard, Game Director at Bethesda Game Studios. “To have our first mobile game be enjoyed by so many is stunning. It just shows that gamers appreciate more depth and being treated fairly. It also shows people love Fallout as much as we do.”
After its release, Fallout Shelter quickly became one of the highest grossing games on its first week on the App store. Within just two days of launch it broke into the top grossing chart, overtaking Candy Crush as the number 3 top grossing app in the U.S. Not just content with being a hit stateside, Fallout Shelter also joined the ranks of the top 5 grossing games on the App store in 37 other countries.
Fallout Shelter remains the number 1 downloaded free game on the App store, with play sessions exceeding 70 million times a day by fans globally.
In my recent Fallout Shelter review, I gave it an 8/10, saying that “Fallout Shelter is a great little game, so if you own an iPhone or iPad (or shortly, an Android device) get it now – especially if you’re a Fallout fan. Although there isn’t a great deal of depth to the gameplay, that doesn’t matter: the aesthetic, humor andFallout setting make this an incredibly fun title which I’ve already poured hours into”
