Piranha Bytes, the development studio behind cult favorite RPG series Gothic and Risen, has announced their next project - ELEX.

An open world RPG, ELEX is set in a post-apocalyptic science fantasy universe. The world is said to be seamless, and moral choices are set to be a key gameplay aspect. Nordic Games will be publishing.

“To say we are excited to see this new project unfold in the hands of Piranha Bytes is an understatement. ELEX is going to be edgy, dark, uncompromising, complex, and we love it already,” said Reinhard Pollice, Business & Product Development Director at Nordic Games.

“Apart from being enthusiastic about the cooperation with Nordic Games, it is great to know, that we will have ample creative freedom with ELEX, which is a very important factor for us,” said Björn Pankratz, Game Director at Piranha Bytes. “We can’t wait to show you a completely new game experience with a fresh setting, new assets and plenty of possibilities.”

Not much else is known about the game at the moment, other than the fact it’s due “Winter 2016/ 2017″ and is in development for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. We’ll get our first proper look at ELEX during Gamescom in September, when Piranha Bytes show off a vertical slice.
