Grand Theft Auto V: New content for PC, PS4 and Xbox One detailed.

Thinking about upgrading your Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 copy of Grand Theft Auto V when the latest versions are released, but worried it might not be worth the money?

Worry not - Rockstar has anticipated these concerns, and has you covered. Purchase a copy of Grand Theft Auto V on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC and transfer your save data across from your existing copy, and you’ll be treated to a number of extras that you won’t have seen before.

Chief among these is perhaps an entirely new set of missions for retired Tony Soprano-alike Michael, which sees the aging crook embroiled in a murder mystery - complete with noir-style visual filters for added authenticity. Meanwhile, Franklin gets a handful of new wilderness photo challenges, completing all of which will net you a new submarine to play around with.

A Rail Gun and Hatchet are added to the selection of weapons, a number of Muscle cars and Stock car races pad out the existing range of vehicles, there’s a new blimp and Dodo seaplane, and new outfits will be awarded to players to take snaps of graffiti around San Andreas.

All of these and a few more are exclusive to the new version of the game, Rockstar says. Apparently the “vastly enhanced graphics” as well as “many other updates” mean that the new content is “only made possible by virtue of the powerful new hardware of the new consoles and PC”.

Save data can only be transferred once, and while your existing save data won’t be lost following the migration process, you won’t be able to move over any subsequent progress. So that’s something to bear in mind.

It’s safe to say that I rather enjoyed GTAV when it was originally released last November. In my review I awarded the game a lofty 9/10, saying that Rockstar’s return to San Andreas is “a fitting swansong to this generation and succeeds in throwing down the gauntlet to competitors who seemed to be coming close to usurping its crown.”

Some screenshots have also been released, showing some glimpses of the new content.

As well as these new details, the next-gen (well, current-gen now) iteration of Grand Theft Auto V will sport increased foliage, denser traffic, and over 100 new songs spread across the existing 17 radio stations. That’s on top of the expected increases to resolution and draw distance, of course.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Grand Theft Auto V will be released next month: November 18, 2014, to be precise. PC players will have to wait until the new year - January 27, 2015.

Does this sound like a steal? Or daylight robbery? Feel free to let us know.
