Earlier today, Studio Mono released a playable tech demo for their upcoming InSomnia which is currently undergoing a Kickstarter campaign. InSomnia is what Mono is calling a “dieselpunk” tactical role-playing game with isometric gameplay that harkens back to the classic tactical gameplay of the Fallout series. Studio Mono was founded in 2011 in Samara, Russia by a group of multinational TRPG genre enthusiast.
Promised to be set within the fully living world of the “retro-futuristic” space station named The Ark, which has been carrying the last of humanity on a 400 year journey in search of a new habitable planet for humanity. Players will be able to create and fully customize their characters as they try to survive the horrible living conditions of the space station after years of war.
The years of war have divided the Ark into several warring factions, and your social reputation will be in constant flux as your actions change the world. Leading other characters and factions to change their behavior as you progress through the story of the game. Each of the different factions will provide access to different skills, abilities, and crafting options to further customize your character.
InSomnia will also be moving away from a traditional leveling system in favor of a more fluid progression path for characters that will evolve depending on your gameplay style. The campaign will feature over 20 hours of gameplay with another 20 hours of side quest and randomly generated content for you to explore. Periodically throughout the game there will be points of “no return” that will lock your decisions in place, potentially leading you into restarting your game.
InSomnia has gained quite the recognition on Kickstarter over the last few weeks, and in response Mono has released the tech demo to give backers and curious inquiries a taste of what is to come.
“The team and I are amazed by the level of anticipation and love shown for our game. To be 50% funded in ten days is really exciting,” said Anatoliy Necrasov - lead developer at Studio Mono - in a press release, “‘To celebrate hitting the halfway mark so quickly, and to show our gratitude, we’ve decided to release the first playable tech demo as a big thank you to all of our backers!”
Furthermore, Mono has adamantly expressed that backers will have access to a completely DRM free version of the game alongside their Steam copy, and they are offering a discounted price for potential backers on Kickstarter as one of their tiered rewards. Other rewards include the official soundtrack, concept art book, beta access and in game personal avatar.
