Earlier this month, CD Projekt Red teased in their latest trailer for The Witcher 3: The Hunt that a 2nd playable character would be available, and that it was “someone” who appeared in the trailer.
After announcing yet another delay, CPR confirmed that the 2nd playable character would be Ciri, the ashen-haired girl who features prominently in The Witcher novels and television series.
Ciri is a talented sword fighter with great speed and agility, and her “blink” ability is hinted at briefly in the trailer. CPR teased a separate “mythical power” lying dormant in Ciri, but we’ll have to wait for more information down the road. She is descendant from a long lineage of a long lost Elven blood, who can both heal and destroy with equal power.
While the emphasis of the story will remain with the Witcher Geralt, players will be switched to Ciri at key moments during the narrative, allowing for a more in-depth story telling from a decidedly different angle. She is a living weapon, Geralt’s apprentice, and everyone wants to control her power. Isn’t it nice to feel wanted?
The news probably won’t be enough to sate angry fans, who now have to wait until May 19, 2024 for The Witcher 3‘s launch (assuming… you know, no more delays), it might be enough to keep interest piqued for the much anticipated release.
