So it’s official, the only way to get your hands on the Final Fantasy XV demo is to buy Final Fantasy HD Type-0 - this was stressed by Square Enix this in a post on the PlayStation blog.
The demo, called Episode Duscae, will unfortunately never be released as a standalone offering, marketing chief Scott Strichart said.
“This demo is exclusive to Final Fantasy Type-0 HD,” he said. “We’re never going to release it as a standalone piece down the line.”
To make things a little harder for those salivating over Final Fantasy XV and to push up the amount of pre-orders for Final Fantasy Type-0, which will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (no Vita, it breaks my heart) on March 25th in Europe and March 17th in the US, Square Enix added an “available only while stocks last” warning tag.
“It’s intended to be a special gift for those of you who purchase early,” Strichart wrote.
“The demo will be limited to the ‘Day One’ edition of the game, meaning that only the first shipment is going to have the demo in it. So if the demo is something you think you might like, we highly encourage you to pre-order or to be quick about getting to the store on launch day, March 17th, 2015.”
Fans seemed to be a bit confused by this statement, but Strichart cleared things up in a comment that read: “it’s available in the first print run that we make of the game, and not beyond that.”
To put it bluntly, if you want guaranteed access to the Final Fantasy XV demo, pre-order Type-0. It’s not as if it’s a punishment - Type-0 is actually shaping up to be a pretty good re-release. You can check out a gameplay demo for Final Fantasy XV below. If that doesn’t pique your interest, I’m not sure if anything will.
