Xbox One sold more than PS4 in November

Xbox One outsold the PS4 in both the US and UK during the month of November, Microsoft has announced.

The news marks the first time that the console has outsold its rival since launch last year. The announcement was made by Mark Nichols, Microsoftā€™s corporate vice-president of Xbox marketing. “November set a new record for sales of Xbox One, and Xbox One was the best-selling console in the US and UK,” he said in a statement. “Response to the holiday lineup of games on Xbox One was incredible, with Xbox One fans buying more games in November in the U.S. than any other gen eight platform and enjoying over 357 million hours of gameplay globally.”

“More fans logged into Xbox Live across Xbox One and Xbox 360, and enjoyed more entertainment, than any other month in the history of Xbox. We love to see the excitement from our fans and are grateful for their passion, support and contributions to the Xbox community.”

The Xbox One has so far struggled to match the sales of Sonyā€™s rival console, the PlayStation 4. Part of the reason for this could be said to lie at the feet of lingering mistrust of the company after its initial unveiling of the console spelled out plans for the system to be digital-led and require a mandatory connection to the internet every 24 hours. After siginificant backlash from both the press and gamers, Microsoft was forced to reverse its plans, but thereā€™s no doubt that the experience helped to make PlayStation 4 the early front-runner this gen.
